President-elect Donald Trump's continued presence at his home and offices in New York City is functioning well, and he will do "whatever is necessary" to do his "day job" when he takes office, senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said Thursday.
"His day job is in Washington," Conway told Fox News' Martha MacCallum, after the "America's Newsroom" host asked her about reports Trump might not be planning to live full-time at the White House. "You will see him there. Nobody wants to create a tenuous logistical headache long term for the public or for the service, obviously."
Trump loved his trip to Washington D.C. last week, she continued, and "he is still talking about the meeting with President [Barack] Obama and meetings with Vice President [Joe] Biden, Majority Leader [Mitch] McConnell and Speaker [Paul] Ryan. That's where the day job is, and that is where he will be most focused."
Trump's situation is different, though, she continued, as he is in a "unique situation, with somebody who is incredibly successful in an entirely non-political industry in a city away from Washington, D.C. But he knows the job entails. He will have the support of his family as he always has. This is very exciting time."
Trump and his transition team have been holding a series of meetings at Trump Tower, and as the new president-elect lives in the Manhattan landmark's penthouse, security is high around the building.
"It is unprecedented, but everything about Donald Trump and his ascent to the presidency is unprecedented, so it is working fine," Conway said. "Frankly, we come in and out. The media are there. I see them early in the morning. I see them late at night. Other people who want to access, some stores are able to do that."
Obviously, though, proper security, including Secret Service agents and the New York Police Department is required for the next president, Conway said, and she does not think anyone can argue with that.
"When 20,000 protesters wanted to come and scream, 'not my president,' and they're not accepting the election results ironically, they were allowed to do that within steps, within the shadow of Trump Tower," Conway said.
Meanwhile, she described the transition team's progress as going smoothly in New York, and said "possibly" when asked if any announcements on staffing will be announced Thursday.
"He is very focused on flotilla of meetings," she said, and at 5 p.m., Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence will meet with the prime minister of Japan.
