If former Vice President Joe Biden is elected, the Obama administration's attempts to link then-2016 candidate Donald Trump to Russia will be "swept under the rug," but former FBI Director James Comey must be held accountable along with everyone else involved, including Biden himself, Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday.
"Joe Biden was implicated directly in this conduct so if he comes in, (he will be) covering it up, sweeping it under the rug, ignoring the lawyer at the FBI who fraudulently altered a document and lied to the FISA court, all of that's going to be on the agenda," the Texas Republican told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo.
His comments came before Comey was to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday.
"There seems to be no consequences for a gross abuse of power," he added.
Cruz said he also finds the news revealed in declassified documents that the CIA requested the FBI look into whether the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign approved a plan of "stirring up a scandal" about Russian interference "stunning."
"It's not at the end of the day surprising because it was clear this was a political hit job from the beginning," said Cruz. "One of the very worst legacies of the Obama/Biden administration is they did an awful lot to destroy the Department of Justice and the FBI and the intelligence agencies and they basically turned the DOJ and the FBI into research centers and political attack dogs ... I hope they're held accountable for their abuse of power because it did enormous damage to the integrity of the institution."
Cruz added he's "deeply frustrated" that nobody has been held accountable yet.
"The Obama administration targeted Gen. Michael Flynn who had spent decades serving our country honorably defending this nation and they went after him," said Cruz. "It was Barack Obama and Joe Biden personally who were directing much of that attack ... I'm very disappointed if there's going to be no transparency and no accountability before the election."
