Democrats flipped the House seat held by Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., in Tuesday's midterm elections.

Brat, according to NBC News, was defeated by Democrat and former CIA operations officer Abigail Spanberger. With nearly every precinct reported, Spanberger led by roughly 2,000 votes.

Brat made national headlines in 2014 when he beat then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the Republican primary. He went on to win the general election later that year and again in 2016.
