Scarborough: Jolly Victory Indicates GOP Rout in Midterms

"Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough said on his show Wednesday that Republican David Jolly’s victory shows that the GOP will rout the Democrats in the November midterms just like in 2010.

Jolly edged Democrat Alex Sink for the House seat in Florida’s 13th District, and Scarborough agreed with Jolly that the ongoing problems with Obamacare was the deciding factor with the voters.

"History shows Obamacare sunk Democrats in 2010," Scarborough said on his MSNBC show. "I think we may have something historic here happening, where you have one act actually causing grave damage to a political party two midterms in a row.

"I personally believe Alex Sink’s consultants that had her stand in front of the camera and  said 'fix the Affordable Care Act,' I think that’s a horrible mistake. You don’t fight on enemy terrain.

"She tried to fight on enemy terrain, defending this act that no Democrat has tried to defend over the last four years. They just don’t do it, because you can’t do it on the campaign trail, unless you like losing."

Scarborough said that Jolly beat Sink even though he was a dreadful candidate. "I can’t state this enough, people inside Florida and Washington, D.C., said he was just a lousy, lousy candidate."

New York Times writer Jeremy Peters told Scarborough that there were other reasons for the Jolly victory, and that he didn’t think that Obamacare was "everything in this case." But Scarborough said, "I think it is."
