Hillary Clinton is widening her lead in Michigan, according to the results of a new poll.
The Detroit News survey of likely voters was taken after Sunday's presidential debate between the Democrat Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. The results:
- Clinton, 42.2 percent
- Trump, 30.6 percent
- Libertarian Gary Johnson, 10.3 percent
- Green Party's Jill Stein, 4.6 percent
The news outlet conducted the same poll last month and concluded at the time Clinton led Trump, 41.9 percent to 35.1 percent.
Other key findings from the most recent poll:
- 42.8 percent said Trump should step down as the Republican presidential nominee
- 48.7 percent said Clinton won the second debate
- 64.5 percent have an unfavorable view of Trump, while 49.8 percent said the same for Clinton
"[Trump] is continuing to hemorrhage support, and that is the wrong direction for any campaign in mid-October," pollster Richard Czuba told the Detroit News. "And if he does not do something to stanch the loss of his Republican support immediately, this is going to get completely out of hand for the entire Republican ticket."
The poll was taken days after sexually suggestive comments made by Trump in 2005 were made public.
