Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton's running mate in the race for president, has been quietly preparing for his Tuesday night debate but said he is not stressing over it.
"I'm calm," Kaine said Sunday of his showdown with his Republican counterpart Mike Pence, who currently serves as governor of Indiana. "Things work out the way they are supposed to."
Kaine is working with Democratic campaign aide Mo Elleithee, ABC News reported, for the debate to be held at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. Elleithee told the network Kaine spends time alone to study when he first begins debate preparation. Later, he seeks advice and guidance.
"He doesn't have a pair of lucky debate socks or anything crazy," Elleithee said. "He takes his prep seriously, spends a lot of time thinking about how he wants to frame the arguments he wants to make."
Robert Barnett, an attorney in Washington, D.C., is playing Pence during Kaine's practice debates, ABC reported. Clinton and Kaine aides are also helping the senator.
The topics of discussion for the debate have not been released, but it will feature nine segments that are each 10 minutes long, Politico reported.
Clinton's email scandal is likely to come up, something Kaine has spoken about already on the campaign trail.
"I've heard her say, 'I made a mistake, and I've learned something from it, and I wouldn't do it again, and I apologize,'" Kaine said in August.
