In demanding a probe into alleged massive voter fraud in the 2016 presidential election, President Donald Trump seems to be questioning the legitimacy of his own victory, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said on Wednesday.

The Florida lawmaker and former Democratic National Committee chairwoman told CNN's "New Day" Trump has been bragging about "how legitimate and huge his election was and how historic it is," while also claiming millions voted illegally to rob him of a popular-vote win — even though there's no proof of that.

"It can't be both," Wasserman Schultz said.

"What is most deeply disturbing about his penchant for lying is if he's willing to lie about the trivial, like crowd size, or the significant, like voter fraud, then what happens when, God forbid, we go to war? …

"Is he going to send [White House press secretary] Sean Spicer out to lie about the casualties that have taken place? Are our allies going to be able to trust us?"
