A majority of voters would choose to vote for Democratic candidates in the 2018 midterm elections, according to CNN survey data released Wednesday.
In the poll:
- 56 percent of those who responded said they were most likely to vote Democrat.
- 38 percent said they were most likely to vote Republican.
When the same question was asked in November 2013, during Barack Obama's administration, 49 percent of voters said they would choose a Republican while 47 percent said they would vote Democrat in the next midterm election.
Democrats are more enthusiastic about the upcoming midterm elections, the poll report said.
- 49 percent of Democratic voters in the poll said they were extremely or very enthusiastic about voting for Congress in the midterms.
- 32 percent of Republicans said they were extremely or very enthusiastic.
In other poll results, Democrats are viewed more favorably than Republicans, according to the poll.
- 46 percent said they viewed Democrats favorably.
- 34 percent said they viewed Republicans favorably.
Other polls appear to show rising support for Democrats. Democrats were ahead of Republicans by 15 points on a generic ballot in a Fox News poll in October.
The poll surveyed 1,001 adults Dec. 14-17, with a margin of error of 3.8 points, according to the poll report.
