President Barack Obama's perceived lack of strength in dealing with the Islamic State could hurt Democrats in the 2016 general election.
The Hill reports Democrats are "increasingly fearful" of such a possibility, especially after Sunday night's address to the nation during which he offered no specific plan to stop the radical Islamist terror group.
Top Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf called the speech "weak and unclear."
"He has no specific plan except to say we will stay the course and everything will be fine. If the polls are to be believed, [voters] liked it when he took the lead to kill Osama bin Laden, and they don't like that he's not taking the lead now. Americans still hope John Wayne will show up," Sheinkopf told The Hill.
A CNN/ORC poll shortly after the bin Laden's execution showed 65 percent of Americans approved of Obama's handling of terrorists, versus 34 percent who disapproved.
But last week, a new CNN/ORC poll found that 38 percent now approve of his handling of terrorism, with another 60 percent disapproved.
