A bipartisan group of six senators plans to release its immigration reform bill Wednesday as discussion about the hot-button issue continues.

The Hill reported that Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said he will make the proposal public and has asked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to allow for a "test vote" to gauge how much support the bill has in its current form.

"It will be available tomorrow and we're prepared for a vote as quickly as possible," Durbin said. "And if it is successful, as I believe it will be, [I hope] that Sen. McConnell will include it as an amendment to must-pass legislation."

The other members of the bipartisan group working on immigration are Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., Bob Menendez, D-N.J., Michael Bennet, D-Colo., and Cory Gardner, D-Colo.

President Donald Trump held an open immigration meeting at the White House last Tuesday, followed by another one on Thursday. There has been discussion about whether Trump used a derogatory term to refer to certain countries during the Thursday meeting.

Graham spoke about the immigration issue during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday and wondered aloud what made Trump change his attitude toward current immigration reform efforts.

Lawmakers are trying to put together bipartisan legislation that will add border security, change certain aspects of immigration law, and come to an agreement on protecting people who have benefited from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. DACA will expire March 5, at which point roughly 700,000 people could be subject to deportation.
