As the Democratic National Convention entered its second day, presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign is getting ready for Wikileaks to release more purloined emails and downplaying their potential impact.
"We're not concerned about our emails. The Wikileaks leak was obviously designed to hurt our convention so it's possible that they could do it — I don't think they're done," Jennifer Palmieri, communications director for the Clinton campaign,
told the Washington Examiner Tuesday. "That's how they operate."
Although she said the Clinton campaign isn't expecting anything this week, necessarily, leaders believe Wikileaks has more to share at some point.
"People need to understand, when these leaks happen, what they're designed to do," Palmieri said.
Some, including Hillary For America campaign manager Robby Mook, have suggested that Russian-government hackers are behind the leak, hoping to influence the Nov. 8 election.
"What's disturbing to us is that experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and now other experts are saying the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of helping Donald Trump,"
Mook said on CNN. "I don't think it's coincidental that these emails were released on the eve of our convention here, and I think that's disturbing."
Members of the Democratic National Committee have already apologized to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for remarks contained in emails made public by Wikileaks last week, leading to the
resignation of Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Despite emails that questioned his faith, insulted and demeaned his campaign, Sanders reaffirmed his endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president Monday.
"We think yesterday we were really pleased that the, not just by voice vote but by enthusiastic voice vote, all of the delegates approved the platform, and we believe that's because it's the most progressive party platform that the Democrats have adopted," Palmieri told the Examiner. "That happened because Sen. Sanders' campaign and our campaign came together to work very hard to develop that."
