The Justice Department has ordered its civil rights division to pause any existing litigation left over from the administration of former President Joe Biden, The Washington Post reported.

The department directed the division to not pursue any new cases, file new cases, or agree to settlements, the newspaper said, citing a memo sent to the temporary head of the division.

The memo does not state how long the freeze will last, but it essentially shuts down the civil rights division for at least the first weeks of the administration of Republican President Donald Trump, who took office on Monday, the newspaper reported.

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
