President Donald Trump’s campaign has dropped its lawsuit challenging ballots in Arizona after it became clear that Joe Biden will win the state even if the suit was successful, CNN reports.
The Trump campaign had objected to a number of ballots submitted in Maricopa County, Arizona, but said in a court filing on Friday that “the tabulation of votes statewide has rendered unnecessary a judicial ruling as to the presidential electors.”
Bloomberg reports that the lawsuit concerned 191 ballots in total, while Biden leads Trump by about 11,000 votes. As of Friday afternoon, the Arizona Secretary of State’s office reports that an estimate 6,671 ballots remain uncounted.
Tim Murtaugh, Trump campaign spokesman, told CNBC that “All parties acknowledge that in-person voters, who were likely predominately Trump voters, were disenfranchised by having their votes kicked out by the machines in Maricopa County, so for Democrats to celebrate that fact is shameful. We continue to explore President Trump’s options in Arizona.”
