Ben Carson: Debate Rookie Trump Faces 'Learning Curve'

Former Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson said Donald Trump faces a "learning curve" in debates and the Republican nominee will likely change his approach for the next one.

"Remember, this is his first one-on-one debate, and I think there's a learning curve for that," Carson told CNN on Wednesday. "I think he will have learned a lot from this.

"I think you will probably see a bit different way of approaching it for the next debate."

Monday night's presidential debate between Trump, a Republican, and Democrat Hillary Clinton was fiery. Trump, however, was forced to play defense during much of it. Some polls, such as a CNN one, scored it a Clinton victory. Others gave the nod to Trump.

"I don't know that I would say that it didn't go well, but it didn't go as well as it could have," Carson said. "Remember, in 17 out of 21 polls, particularly the online polls, which tend to be people who are very engaged, he won."

The results of a Reuters poll that came out Wednesday showed Clinton fared better than Trump in the first of three debates, 56 percent to 26 percent.

Carson dropped out of the presidential race in March and has worked with Trump's campaign sporadically since.
