CBS News Poll: Trump Still Leads, Carson Second

Businessman Donald Trump holds his lead among Republican primary voters in the latest CBS News poll announced Sunday. 

According the results released for the top 11 candidates of the 15 in the field:
  • Donald Trump 27%
  • Ben Carson 21%
  • Ted Cruz 9%
  • Marco Rubio 8%
  • Jeb Bush 6%
  • Carly Fiorina 6%
  • Rand Paul 4%
  • Chris Christie 3%
  • Mike Huckabee 2%
  • John Kasich 2%
  • Rick Santorum 1%
The poll was conducted by telephone October 4-8 and took a random sample of 1,251 adults nationwide, including 1,038 registered voters. The margin of error is 5 percentage points.

On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State holds a commanding lead over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, but loses 10 points if Vice President Joe Biden joins the race:
  • Hillary Clinton 56%
  • Bernie Sanders 32%
With Vice President Joe Biden as an option:
  • Hillary Clinton 46%
  • Bernie Sanders 27%
  • Joe Biden 16%

The remaining Democratic candidates garner less that 2 percent in either scenario.

The margin of error in the Democratic sampling is 6 percentage points.
