Pew Poll: Harris, Trump in Dead Heat Nationally

Vice President Kamala Harris holds a slight edge over former President Donald Trump among all registered voters in a new national survey, although the lead is within the survey's margin of error.

The poll, conducted by the Pew Research Center, shows Harris with a 1-point lead, 48%-47%, over Trump.

About 5% were leaning toward a third-party candidate.

The survey, conducted among 4,025 registered voters Sept. 30-Oct. 6, also found:

  • 42% say they are certain about their support for Harris.
  • 40% say they are certain about their support for Trump.
  • 5% say they support Chase Oliver, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, or Cornel West.
  • Roughly 1-in-10 say they are likely to support or lean toward supporting Harris or Trump.
  • 70% have thought "a lot" about the candidates.
  • 84% say it really matters who wins.
  • 70% say they are extremely motivated to vote.

The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 1.7 percentage points.
