Donald Trump recently called Mark Cuban to ask the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks why he's started trash-talking about him.

Cuban told Fortune magazine the presumptive GOP presidential candidate reached out "directly, to ask me why I have gone far more negative."

And while Cuban gave Trump an earful, he said he keeping the conversation private for now, telling Fortune's Dan Primack, "I won't tell you what I said."

In recent days, Cuban has said Trump will have to "grovel" to get campaign contributions and would end up being a "puppet" in the White House.

And in an interview with Don Lemon on CNN Thursday, Cuban said of Trump:

"Anybody who continually refers to themselves in the third person, you almost have to dismiss most of what they're saying."

He also told Lemon that Trump's comments about Judge Gonzalo Curiel not being able to do his job in overseeing a lawsuit involving Trump University were racist, he doesn't believe Trump is racist himself.

But Cuban added: "When he's calling out a judge and trying to intimidate a judge, there's very few things that are worst to me, that's worse than racism."

In his interview with Fortune, Cuban said he doesn't donate to political campaigns because, "It's slimy. I don't want to ask or be owed favors. I want everything to be straight up. I value my independence."
