Donald Trump would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un if the dictator made a visit to the United States, he said Wednesday.
Speaking during a campaign event in Atlanta, Trump said if he wins the presidency he would not travel to the closed nation for a meeting.
"What the hell is wrong with speaking?" Trump said,
reports CNN.
"I wouldn't go there, that I can tell you. If he came here, I'd accept him. But I wouldn't give him a state dinner like we do for China and all these other people that rip us off."
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee did say that his chances of convincing Kim to abandon his country's nuclear weapons program are not good.
Last month,
Trump told Reuters he "would speak to [Kim]. I would have no problem speaking to him."
Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions said after the Reuters piece was published that
he doubts anything good would come out of a meeting between the two.
"It's unlikely that a good result would come out of it, but to attempt something like that, may be worth the effort," Sessions said.
