Donald Trump said Tuesday that "I don't regret anything" in his attacks on the parents of a Muslim Army captain who was killed in Iraq.

"I said nice things about the son — and I feel that very strongly," Trump told reporter Scott Thuman of WJLA-TV in Washington. "But, of course, I was hit very hard from the stage — and you know it’s just one of those things.

"But, no, I don’t regret anything," he said.

Trump has been under serious attack for criticizing Khizr Khan, who slammed Trump's call to ban Muslims from entering the United States last week at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

His son, Humayun Khan, 27, of Bristow, Va., was killed by a car bomb in Iraq in 2004. He was awarded the Purple Heart and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Trump also suggested that Khizr Khan's wife, Ghazala, who stood silent while her husband based the Republican nominee, was not allowed to speak because she is Muslim.
