As Congress' conference committee on tax reform prepares for a vote in the House and Senate on Tuesday, President Donald Trump called "working American families" the "backbone" and "heartbeat of our country," teasing Sunday via Twitter "we are just days away" from a "massive tax cut."

As the Trump administration closes in on its campaign promise to cut the corporate tax rate, President Trump has been beating back Democratic criticism the GOP Tax Cuts and Jobs Act serves only the wealthy.

"Everybody is going to benefit," President Donald Trump said late this week, a vow he reiterated in a similar tweet Saturday.

Democrats' have critiqued not only who gets tax relief, but also who has voted for the tax reform package in both the House and Senate – just Republicans.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., lamented he was not more "involved" in bipartisan work on reform instead of mere "tax cuts."

Also, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., vowed to undo the deep corporate tax cuts once Democrats regain control of the House and Senate, potentially as soon as the 2018 midterm elections.

"I think we're going to take a very hard look at this entire tax bill and make it a tax bill that works for the middle class and working families – not for the top 1 percent and large multinational corporations," Sanders told CBS's "Face the Nation."
