President Donald Trump on Monday night trashed an NBC News report that chief of staff John Kelly insulted him behind his back and claimed credit for saving the nation by stopping some of the things Trump wanted to do.

In a pair of tweets, Trump — without mentioning the news outlet by name — used the report to reinforce his own frequent denunciation of the "fake news" media.

"The Fake News is going crazy making up false stories," he tweeted, adding: "Truly bad people!"

He then posted ebullient praise of the White House operation, as "running very smoothly" and there is "great energy and unending stamina."

Kelly himself also debunked the report.
