Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer personally appealed to conservatives to go to the polls for the midterm elections in an effort to keep control of Congress.
“If conservatives sit at home, Republicans are dead in the water,” he said during a Friday interview on television’s “Fox & Friends.”
He noted the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court might encourage conservatives to vote.
“If conservatives, because of the Kavanaugh issue, now are fired up and turn out, this election we are looking at in November could be a very different election,” said Fleischer who served under President George W. Bush.
He noted Democrats are already galvanized.
“Here’s what we know: For more than a year, Democrats have been fired up,” he said. “They are so anti-Trump, they’re coming out in droves now no matter what.
“Conservatives until Kavanaugh were generally sitting at home. Now, they have a chance. Now they are fired up.”
Meanwhile, Republicans have pulled even with Democrats in the generic congressional midterms poll for just the second time since weekly tracking started by Rasmussen Reports in May.
