According to a new
Florida Chamber of Commerce poll, likely voters in the Sunshine State support incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Scott for re-election, putting him 5 points ahead of his top challenger, Democratic Party nominee Charlie Crist.
The poll, conducted Oct. 27 to Oct. 29, found that 44 percent of likely voters supported Scott, compared to 39 percent who backed Crist and 4 percent for Libertarian Party nominee Adrian Wyllie.
The survey, conducted by Cherry Communications, polled more than 500 likely voters by telephone and had a 4 percent margin of error.
Other key results of the poll showed that 43 percent of Floridians believe the state is headed in the right direction, up from 40 percent in September, while the percentage who believe the state is headed in the wrong direction dropped from 44 percent in September to 38 percent in the new survey.
Other results from the new poll show that Scott is ahead in all age categories 40 and above and that he leads Crist 47 percent to 42 percent among Floridians who have already voted.
The Chamber survey also found that Crist leads among women, while Scott is ahead among men.
Results of the Chamber poll came on the heels of a Quinnipiac University survey which found Crist ahead of Scott by three points. That survey of more than 800 likely voters, conducted from Oct. 22-27, found Crist leading Scott by a 45 to 42 percent margin, and running 18 points ahead among independents.
The latest
Real Clear Politics average (which includes the Quinnipiac results but excludes those from the new Chamber of Commerce survey) puts Crist ahead of Scott by one point.
