Former Vice President Joe Biden has an advantage over President Donald Trump in Florida, according to a new poll.
A Monmouth University poll released Tuesday indicates that Biden has a 5-point lead over the president in the Sunshine State.
Poll results show:
- 50% of Florida voters say they will back Biden.
- 45% of Florida voters say they will reelect Trump.
- 41% of Florida voters say they view the president favorably.
- 47% of Florida voters say they view Biden favorably.
- 70% of Florida voters of color say they will back Biden.
- 58% of Florida’s Latino voters say they will vote for Biden.
According to the poll results, Trump and Biden are locked in a statistical tie when it comes to Florida voters who are 65 and older. Trump has 49% of the senior vote in the state, while Biden has 47%. In 2016, exit polls indicated Trump received 57% of the state’s senior vote.
Of the state’s military voters, Trump has the advantage. Trump has 50% of support from Florida military voters compared to Biden’s 46%.
Trump’s advantage among white voters, a demographic he carried by 32 points in 2016, has started to decline. According to the poll results, he is ahead of Biden by 17 points. Fifty-six percent of white voters say they will support Trump, while 39% say they will vote for Biden.
Biden has the lead over Trump in South Florida and central Florida, according to the poll results. Biden’s advantage in South Florida is 63% to Trump’s 34%, and he edges out Trump 50% to 44% in the middle of the state.
The Monmouth University poll surveyed 428 registered voters in the swing state of Florida between Sept. 10-13. The poll has a margin of error of 4.7 percentage points.
