Rep. Goodlatte: Strzok Texts 'Very Troubling'

Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said Thursday that the texts between a former member of special counsel Robert Mueller's team bring up "very troubling" implications for the FBI.

"The American people expect justice to be represented by that blind-folded woman with the balanced scales, and that's not what we're seeing here," Goodlatte, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" Thursday.

"And what's going on in the Mueller investigation, the special counsel's investigation goes all the way back to early last year."

A former member of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, FBI agent Peter Strzok, was removed from the probe due to a text message in which he called President Donald Trump an "idiot." His presence on Mueller's team caused some to question if any of the other investigators are biased against Trump.

In his interview, Goodlatte quotes a message from Strzok to FBI lawyer Lisa Page, another member of the Mueller team at the time: "'I want to believe the path that you threw out for consideration in Andy's office. There's no way he gets elected. But I'm afraid we can't take that risk. It's like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you're 40.'"

The congressman continued: "Andy is presumably Andrew McCabe, the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation… And this is very troubling because it suggests that they're doing something. They have a plan to take action to make sure that Donald Trump does not get elected president of the United States.

"In the highest levels of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. That is deeply troubling. And that has now infected the independent special counsel examination by Robert Mueller."
