A handful of Republican legislators have decided to skip President Barack Obama’s jobs speech to the joint session of Congress.
Sen. David Vitter, R-La., called the address “more political speech than substantive” and said he will be attending a New Orleans Saints party instead,
The Washington Post’s 2chambers blog reports.
Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., said that “instead of being a prop of another one of the president’s speeches, next Thursday I will fly home to Illinois to talk to real job creators.”
Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., also will be a no-show and Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., said he will watch from his office, the Post reports.
GOP presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul of Texas will not be present but his son, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., plans to attend, according to the Post.
