The next Supreme Court justice should be "a cross between Socrates and Dirty Harry," according to Sen. John Kennedy, R-La.
In an interview Wednesday with CNN's Chris Cuomo, the senator predicted there would be vote on a nomination to fill the seat vacated by retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy this year — despite calls by Democrats to put off in an election year.
"I know who I'm looking for," John Kennedy said. "I want a cross between Socrates and Dirty Harry. I don't want a hater. I want a whip-smart man or woman who understands the role of the Supreme Court vis-a-vis Congress and the president."
"I don't know if Justice [Neil] Gorsuch has a twin sister or twin brother," he added. "If he does, that's the kind of person I would look for."
He also said there would likely be "a long confirmation hearing."
"I hope it's orderly," he said. "I hope everybody has plenty of time to ask questions."
