Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says it was was "stupid" of President Donald Trump to ask China to investigate Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden.
"As to asking China to look into Biden, that was stupid,” Graham said in an interview with Axios on HBO airing Sunday night.
“Nobody believes that China would be fair to Biden, Trump, me or you, or anybody. Bad idea. That didn't last very long. I think that's a frustrated Trump who feels like there's two different games, that people in [the media] are never gonna really sit down and talk to Hunter Biden unless it's a softball interview."
Trump in early October said he wanted China and Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son, Hunter.
"Well, I would think that if they were honest about it, they'd start a major investigation into the Bidens. It's a very simple answer. They should investigate the Bidens," Trump said.
"Likewise, China should start an investigation into the Bidens because what happened in China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine," Trump added. "So, I would say that President Zelenskiy, if it were me, I would recommend that they start an investigation into the Bidens.”
Graham isn’t the only Republican senator to criticize Trump for pushing China to probe the Bidens.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas last week said “of course not” when asked whether it was appropriate for the president to do so.
