Stephanie Grisham is out as White House press secretary, CNN's chief national security correspondent says.

Jim Sciuto, in a tweet, noted Tuesday morning that Grisham "is leaving the job without ever having briefed the press."

Mark Meadows, the new White House chief of staff, reportedly has been looking to replace her with one of two candidates of his own: Pentagon spokeswoman Alyssa Farah and Trump campaign spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany.

In a follow-up report, CNN said Grisham will take on the role of first lady Melania Trump's chief of staff.

CNN characterizes Grisham's ouster as part of Meadows' effort to shake up the communications team in the West Wing.
