Republicans might still be feeling the sting of failing to repeal Obamacare, but now comes the "easier fight" of tax reform for GOP lawmakers, Grover Norquist wrote in a column for The Hill.

Passing tax reform legislation will be a breeze for several reasons, but mostly because Republicans are "united" on the issue, wrote Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Norquist cited House Speaker Paul Ryan saying that the GOP is "97 percent in accord."

Norquist cites five more reasons why even Sen. John McCain can't sink tax reform:

  1. Republicans "are very good at cutting taxes."
  2. President Donald Trump's "tax proposal is very pro-family and helpful to middle class voters."
  3.  "The business community is united in support of the major components of tax reform."
  4.  Midterms are coming up and the GOP wants to maintain its majority in both houses; "strong economic growth in the first quarter of 2018" would result from tax reform.
  5.  No Democrat will vote for a tax cut, but they won't be screaming at the top of their lungs against it, either.

"Democrat opposition will be hysterical and universal, but oddly muted," Norquist wrote.

"Democrat opposition will in some cases be transactional. They have to sound and look 'progressive,' yet signal to their voters that they understand the need for lower business taxes, all while never admitting the Republicans are doing what they could not or would not do for the past eight years," Norquist wrote.
