The accuser of Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh “deserves to be heard,” and should not be blamed or second-guessed beforehand, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Sunday.
In separate interviews on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” and NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” Haley called for a non-political Senate Judicial Committee hearing without presuppositions about Christine Blasey Ford, who came forward a week ago about an alleged sexual assault by Kavanaugh in the early 1980s.
“I think it’s very important that accusers are heard and that their story is heard but also think the accused needs to be heard,” she told CBS News.
“This is a situation where the Senate really needs to lead on this… that they are conscious of hearing both stories and they do it quickly for the sake of both families,” she added. “And they take the politics out of it.”
Separately, Haley told CNN “you never… blame the accuser or try to second guess the accuser.”
“She deserves respect. She deserves to be heard,” Haley said. “Kavanaugh, who has been accused, deserves to be heard. And I think we'll get all our answers next week.”
