GOP Puts Long-Term Military Budget in Short-Term Spending Bill

Republicans in the House will reportedly pitch a plan that includes funding the military for a year and the rest of the government for a shorter period to prevent a government shutdown this week.

According to The Hill, the House GOP is considering this proposal in hopes that it would receive enough support to pass in both chambers before Thursday night's deadline.

The news outlet reported that House Speaker Paul Ryan and others will present the idea of attaching a year of military funding to a short-term spending bill during a Republican meeting Monday night.

The chamber hopes to vote on a spending bill as soon as Tuesday.

If lawmakers are unable to pass a spending solution before Thursday night, the government will shut down — just as it did for three days last month after the Senate failed to approve a spending bill.
