President Donald Trump doubled down on his attacks Thursday on the conservative House Freedom Caucus that played a key role in his withdrawing the American Health Care Act from a floor vote in the House last week, demanding certain members of the group "get on board" his agenda.
Trump kept up his tirade on Twitter:
Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina is chairman of the Freedom Caucus, while Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Raul Labrador of Idaho were vocal opponents of AHCA.
The president vowed earlier Thursday to oppose members seeking re-election next year "if they don't get on the team" — with Jordan responding "I respect the president, but our focus is on the legislation."
Labrador hit back on Twitter, saying "Freedom Caucus stood with u when others ran.
"Remember who your real friends are. We're trying to help u succeed."
Other caucus members lashed out at President Trump.
"Most people don't take well to being bullied," Michigan Rep. Justin Amash told reporters, per The Hill. "It's constructive in fifth grade.
"It may allow a child to get his way, but that's not how our government works."
