Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives released an agenda that promoted Republican plans for security. It doesn't include Donald Trump's calls for a border wall or a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, according to
The Washington Times.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said that President Barack Obama failed in Syria and failed to thwart the rise of the Islamic State.
"It's not too much to say that our enemies no longer fear us and too many of our allies no longer trust us," the Wisconsin Republican said at the Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank in Washington D.C.
Details of the agenda, titled "A Better Way," were released on the
agenda's website.
The plan's site slams the Obama administration's foreign policy. "The Obama administration has experimented with a new foreign policy concept — leading from behind — that can now be declared an unambiguous failure."
The plan defines the enemy as "Islamic terrorists" and streamlines federal agencies for detecting attackers and stopping recruitment. The plan calls on nations that allow travel to the U.S. without a visa to increase security.
The plan calls for more "high fencing," but not a border wall, and includes improving tracking and detaining of illegals who make it into the country.
"What you need is a proper vetting system," Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul said in the Times report.
The Texas Republican said the war against extremists could not be won "with drone strikes alone."
The Times noted that an audience member at the event asked if Trump would be a threat to democracy. McCaul and Rep. Bob Goodlatte, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said they believed Trump would have good advisers on his staff.
