House Republicans are predicting another short-term spending bill before next week's deadline to avert a government shutdown, lawmakers told The Hill.
Immigration battles are the culprit for bottling up talks this time, forcing what would be a third continuing resolution ahead of next week's Jan. 19 deadline.
"I do believe we'll need another [continuing resolution], hopefully short-term," Rep. Tom Cole told The Hill.
At issue is that Democrats are insisting on funding for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for their votes while resisting President Donald Trump's insistence to include funding to build the southern border wall.
February would be the new deadline.
"I don't think we're heading towards a shutdown, but I do think we're heading towards some very contentious times on the budget," Rep. Mark Meadows told The Hill. "I would be surprised if we don't have another CR next Friday."
