Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday lashed out at the "leftist bullying" he says hopes to sink Donald Trump's selection of former Breitbart News chair Steve Bannon as his chief adviser.

"Once again, the left is trying to tell us what to do — let's not let them!" Huckabee said on his official website.

"The left has sought to dictate to us — that is, people of faith, conservatives, and, broadly, the American people — for, frankly, the entirety of our lives.

"However, we've been fighting back! In 1980 we elected Ronald Reagan. In 1994, we elected Newt Gingrich's majority to Congress. And now, in 2016, we've elected Donald Trump and yet another Republican Majority on Capitol Hill."

Huckabee said that with the "radical agenda" of the left thwarted at the polls last week, they are attempting to target Bannon, who some have labelled a white nationalist and anti-Semite.

"But their real target isn't Steve Bannon. Instead, their real target is the center-right agenda — including conservative judges — that the Trump campaign, with Steve Bannon's help, has embodied," he said.

"Steve Bannon's merits as a person, as well as a political strategist, don't matter to the left. The left wants to take him down … The left hasn't given up on its dream of imposing its values on all of us. Forever. I say: No More. We shouldn't let the left win."
