Donald Trump demanded an investigation into revelations a Hillary Clinton ally donated almost $500,000 to the campaign of the wife of an FBI official who helped oversee the agency's probe of Clinton's email server.
The GOP presidential nominee said the disclosure, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, was "shocking," declaring at a rally in St. Augustine, Fla., on Monday: "We've never had a thing like this in the history of this country."
"And we have to investigate the investigation, folks," he said. "It's absolutely disgraceful. It's absolutely terrible. And it's unbelievable how Hillary Clinton got away with the email lie, the email scam, the email corruption, but now at least we have a pretty good idea."
According to the Journal, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a longtime ally of both Bill and Hillary Clinton, donated the money to the state senate campaign of Dr. Jill McCabe, wife of FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe.
Trump also drilled down on his repeated criticism of "much of" the media, calling it "almost as crooked as Hillary."
"Without the dishonesty and deceit of the media, Hillary Clinton would be nothing," he said, adding: "The media isn't just against me, they're against all of you."
"That's really what they're against," he continued. "They're not against me, they're against what we represent. Like Hillary Clinton, they look down on the hard working people of the country.... The media is entitled, condescending, and even contemptuous of the people who don't share their elitist views."
"I am your voice," Trump said. "I will never let you be the forgotten people again."
