Brash-talking Donald Trump is making some Iowa Republicans cringe – including one of his Iowa co-chairs, who reportedly calls the GOP presidential candidate's immigration policy "a big mistake."
The Des Moines Register reports the co-chair, Richard Thornton, believes the front-running Trump has to broaden his issues if wants to keep steamrolling through Iowa.
"On illegal immigration, he wants to gather up the families and ship them out?" Thornton tells the Register. "That was a boondoggle. The caucus-goers are like, 'What?' That was a big mistake."
Thornton tells the Register Trump will have to focus more on the economy, bringing back jobs from overseas, and term limits if he wants to keep Iowa conservatives on his side.
Trump was vague about his other campaign ideas during his first town hall in New Hampshire on Wednesday,
Politico reports, promising "wonderful" policies to come.
"Well, I did a big policy position on immigration and I think most people really like it," he said, Politico reports.
But in Iowa, Trump's braggadocio may not translate into voter loyalty, the Register reports.
"It's not going to happen right away, but eventually Trump will look like old news – and obnoxious," Wes Enos, who worked for the campaign of Christian conservative Michele Bachmann in 2012, tells the Register.
Adds Jan Mickelson, a conservative radio talk show host for WHO Radio: "He’s the movie they’ve chosen to watch, and at this point, they don’t particularly care if his plot doesn’t make any sense."
