Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Thursday lauded former President George W. Bush for "reminding us of the values that have made America a beacon of hope for all" in his stinging rebuke of the nation's growing isolationism.
McCain called the Bush address "important."
Bush's speech did not mention President Donald Trump by name.
McCain's praise comes after his own hard-hitting address Monday in which — also without mentioning Trump's name — he blasted emerging "half-baked, spurious nationalism" in the United States.
After McCain's remarks, Trump warned "People have to be careful because at some point I fight back.
"I'm being very nice. I'm being very, very nice. But at some point I fight back, and it won't be pretty," he said in a radio interview with WMAL in Washington.
