Ivanka Trump said she and her brothers all "weighed in" on her father's choice for running mate, but implied that Donald Trump decided to go in a different direction.
Appearing on ABC's
"Good Morning America," when asked if she and her brothers all agreed with Trump's choice of Mike Pence as running mate, Ivanka Trump said, "It was my father's decision."
"We did weigh in. We did weigh in, but ultimately it was his decision," Ivanka told GMA's Lara Spencer.
Ivanka Trump introduced he father when he announced his bid for the presidency last year, and she will again introduce him Thursday night when he accepts the Republican Party's nomination, telling GMA that she's "terrified" but also "excited" and "honored."
Ivanka Trump called her father a "messenger of the people" and attacked some of the unfair perceptions about her father, gender equality being one of them.
"Well I think the perception is a flawed one," Ivanka Trump said. "People talk and talk about gender equality, but do they actually live it? My father has. He believes in equality amongst the genders economically, politically, socially. My father has empowered women including me his whole life."
Ivanka also defender her father's use of social media, acknowledging the trouble it has occasionally caused but that it comes with his best intentions.
"The only filter is himself," Ivanka said. "He's able to communicate exactly what he wants to say. It has gotten him into trouble occasionally but I think much more powerful is the fact that he speaks from the brain. He speaks from the heart."
