On the surface it would seem that the only thing Jared Kushner has in common with Donald Trump is Ivanka Trump, the daughter of the GOP nominee and Kushner's wife. However, Kushner has quietly ascended into a prominent yet unlikely role on Team Trump.
Kushner, CEO of his family's real estate firm and owner and publisher of the New York Observer, has been busy adding to his political resume:
- He accompanied Trump to meetings with Speaker Paul Ryan and GOP leaders, according to Real Clear Politics.
- He has been assigned by Trump to map out a transition team should the real estate mogul win the presidency, according to RCP.
Rather surprising from someone who is unaffiliated to any party but who comes from a family that has for years backed Democratic causes in New York and New Jersey.
Kushner's Observer endorsed Barack Obama for President in 2008, and he donated $6,000 to Hillary Clinton in 2000 and 2003, according to JTA.
It's an odd juxtaposition until you know what's really important to Kusher, who has three children with Ivanka Trump.
"The only things that are really permanent are love, family, friendship, and that is a lesson," RCP quoted Kushner from a 2008 interview.
