Former FBI Director James Comey "went silent" when asked about the memos he wrote detailing his conversations with President Donald Trump, former Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Monday.
The former House Oversight Committee chairman said Comey refused to discuss the memos when Chaffetz called him.
"He said he wouldn't talk about it. He wouldn't tell me where they were, and it really raised a lot of eyebrows as I went back and talked to the staff and other members and said, 'Look, he's not going to give these up easily,' " Chaffetz told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.
The former congressman responded to a report from The Hill which claimed the majority of Comey's memos contained classified information. Trump tweeted about the matter early Monday morning, the day after the article was published.
"You can't do that; it's against the law," Chaffetz said.
