Jason Chaffetz: IG's Report Attacks FBI's 'Integrity and Objectivity'

Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, applauded the much-awaited inspector general report about the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, saying Friday morning it will help spur changes at the Department of Justice.

Chaffetz discussed DOJ inspector general Michael Horowitz's report, which was released Thursday, on "Fox & Friends."

"It is unbelievable. Hats off to Michael Horowitz for doing a very thorough report that wasn't leaked in advance. This is one of the most damning rebukes of the FBI that I think we have ever seen and an attack on their integrity and their objectivity," Chaffetz said.

"It really is sickening and disgusting at the approach that they took, and hopefully this is the beginning of fixing it because it is a mess."

The report, which is more than 550 pages in length, dissected how the FBI conducted its investigation of Clinton's use of a private email setup while she was secretary of state (2009-2013). The report found that there was some political bias during the 2016 presidential election as well, concluding that some people at the FBI did not want Donald Trump to win the presidency.

Included in the report were more text messages between FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page. In one exchange, Strzok vowed to stop Trump from winning.

"Every single one of those those texts and emails is anti-Trump, pro-Hillary Clinton, and it demonstrates this widespread — at the top level … these people had a level of animus that we have never seen before," Chaffetz said. "They definitely wanted Hillary Clinton to be president and they wanted to stop Donald Trump."

Chaffetz noted that the entire saga, however, goes back to Clinton's decision to set up the email server in her New York home and create several private email addresses to conduct government business.

"All of this goes back on Hillary Clinton," he said. "She's the one that started this whole chain of events and she can only look to herself for screwing this up."
