Attorney General Loretta Lynch "didn't answer a single question" during her hearing before the House Judicial Committee, and her admission that she wants to continue her position under a Hillary Clinton administration should "tell you something about it," Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Wednesday.
"I asked her simple things," the Utah Republican told Fox News' Martha MacCallum on the
"America's Newsroom" program. "Is it legal or illegal to give classified information to somebody who doesn't have requisite security clearance? She would not answer those questions. There were simple questions. She is obstructing our ability to do our job in Congress and not [being] candid with the American people."
FBI Director James Comey last week announced his decision that Clinton's use of a private email server did not constitute a crime, even though he did detail several instances of classified materials passing through her accounts and those of her staff aides.
The announcement came days after Lynch met with former President Bill Clinton in her government plane in Arizona, said Chaffetz, so voters will have to sort it out themselves whether Clinton improperly handled top-secret messages.
He does believe, though, that Comey is a "very serious-minded person," and he appreciates him coming in just a few days after making his announcement and answering questions on Capitol Hill, but he worries Clinton is being given special treatment.
"There are two different standards, because if you're the average Joe, doing your job, sharing classified information you're probably going to be in handcuffs and probably going to jail," Chaffetz said. "Lady Justice takes off the blindfold for Clinton."
