President Donald Trump isn't considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller amid his probe of possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, lawyer Jay Sekulow said Thursday.

In an interview with Fox News' "Your World with Neil Cavuto," Sekulow said "I don't see the issue coming up."

"The president is not thinking about firing Robert Mueller," Sekulow told Cavuto. "The speculation that’s out there is just incorrect."

"I have to deal with the facts as we have them and the case as we have it," he added. "The decisions the president were to make on Bob Mueller is a decision I... would not be involved in, and frankly the president has not raised with me, with our legal team, the dismissal of Bob Mueller."

Sekulow said the White House was unaware a grand jury had been convened, confirming a statement from White House lawyer Ty Cobb, who said the move was unexpected, but that the Trump administration would be compliant.

"But this is not a surprise because the empaneling of a grand jury in situations like this when you’ve got an investigation is typically how you move forward," Sekulow said.
