Former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch should be investigated because they called the FBI's probe into Hillary Clinton's emails a "matter" instead of an investigation, Rep. Jim Jordan said Thursday.
"The attorney general tells the FBI director to mislead the American people and he did it . . . we're calling for hearings of Mr. Comey and Ms. Lynch, and it's not just Republicans. [Democratic Sen. ] Dianne Feinstein said we should look into that as well," Jordan told CNN's "New Day" program.
"All I'm saying is, let's investigate the investigators," he added.
"You don't think it's important to understand why the Justice Department misled the American people and then why that same individual, when he was fired, decided he was going to leak a government memo through a friend to The New York Times with the stated goal — he said this under oath — with the stated objective to create momentum for a special counsel?" Jordan said, referring to Comey's testimony during a Senate Intelligence Committee.
"And not just any special counsel, but his good friend, his mentor and his predecessor Bob Mueller," Jordan told CNN.
Jordan also stated his skepticism in special counsel Robert Mueller.
"I understand he's got a great reputation," he added, but pointed out that Mueller was FBI director in 2013 when the Justice Department refused to assign a special counsel to a situation in which the IRS apparently targeted conservative groups.
"Where was the special counsel when numerous members of Congress called for it in the Clinton investigation?" Jordan asked.
