Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said he is looking at making a bid to replace retiring Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as House speaker, The Washington Post is reporting

"There is no speaker's race right now," Jordan said. "Paul Ryan is the speaker. If and when there is, I've been urged by colleagues to consider that and I am definitely open to that. Right now though the focus has got to be on the next six months, us keeping the majority."

Ryan announced Wednesday he will not run for re-election and will retire next year.

Jordan is the co-founder of the House Freedom Caucus. If he does make a bid for the post, it would scramble the anticipated race between House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La. The Post noted.

On Thursday, during an appearance on Fox Business, Jordan did not address the speaker's post, but said: "What we need to do is get refocused on what the American people sent us here to do, not do what we did three weeks ago and pass this omnibus spending bill," he said.

"To me it's more important about what we do than it is who might be speaker of the House."
