Borrowing from the playbook of President Donald Trump, a congressman running to be the next governor of Ohio has drawn first blood in an ad-buy that promises to get rid of the "fat cats," Buzzfeed reports.

Rep. Jim Renacci, a congressman for six years, is positioning himself as an outsider in trying to appeal to Trump voters in Ohio to win the Republican primary to replace termed out Gov. John Kasich.

Renacci's three opponents — the state attorney general, lieutenant governor, secretary of state — are being cast as the "Columbus Fat Cats" in Renacci's new $300,000 ad buy.

"Meow, they're still lying around, the Columbus fat cats running for governor," the 30-second ad begins. "They're the scaredy cats who refused to support right to work. Career fat cats who've lived off taxpayers for decades."

Then Renacci, who announced earlier this week that he's leaving Washington over his frustration with "too many of the career politicians," introduces himself as a "businessman, not a career politician."

Renacci's slogan — "Ohio First" — is also a play on Trump's "American First" mantra.

Mike DeWine, Ohio's attorney general, is seen as the Republican front-runner, Buzzfeed reports.
