Rep. Joaquin Castro said Tuesday he's finding himself in a "weird position" concerning Attorney General Jeff Session's future, as he did not think the former senator should have gotten the job to begin with.

At the same time, though, the Texas Democrat told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that he doesn't think President Donald Trump should be able to "dictate the terms of the Russia investigation" by forcing Sessions to resign.

"I said previously he should resign," Castro said. "On the one hand, I don't want to allow Donald Trump to dictate the terms of the Russia investigation, because him forcing out Jeff Sessions to me seems like a prelude to essentially do away with [special counsel] Bob Mueller, and the country cannot allow him to do that."

However, said Castro, Sessions "has had a lot of conflicts of interest, and for that reason, he shouldn't be in that job. So this is a very awkward position to be in, quite honestly."

Either way, Castro said, "In the next few days, I think we will probably see Jeff Sessions gone."
