Vice President Joe Biden likely will not run for president in 2020, but he knows one thing: he'll be in "better shape" than President-elect Donald Trump.

"I can't see the circumstance in which I'd run, but what I've learned a long, long time ago, Stephen, is to never say never," Biden said Tuesday night during an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

"You don't know what's going to happen. I mean hell, Donald Trump's gonna be 74. I'll be 77 and in better shape. I mean, what the hell?"

Biden considered running for president in the 2016 election but ultimately decided against it. On Monday, he made headlines by telling the press he was going to run in 2020.

The remark, however, was apparently made in jest.

Biden's shot at Trump's age and physique came less than two months after he joked about meeting Trump "behind the gym" and, presumably, starting a fist fight with him.

During his interview with Colbert, Biden said he has no plans to launch a White House run in less than four years.

"I'm a great respecter of fate. I don't plan on running again, but to say you know what's gonna happen in four years I just think is not rational."
